This torma is used in the practice of the Sadhana of Chakrasamvara, composed by the eighth Karmapa, Mikyo Dorje in 16th century Tibet. The details of this practice were presented to the Vajradhatu sangha by Venerable Tenga Rinpoche, via the Nalanda Translation Committee, under the auspices of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1985-86 in Boulder Colorado. There are nine tormas in the set. The central torma (referred to as a Phuktor) is elaborately ornamented, stands approximately 13 inches (33cm) high with four retinue tormas in the cardinal directions, and four balims in the intermediate directions. The entire torma mandala measures about 9 inches (23 cm) across. The top and side ornaments of the central torma are detachable for easy packaging and transport.

If you are a practitioner of both the sadhanas of Vajrayogini and Chakrasamvra it is possible to make a combined torma suitable for both practices. This involves detachable ornaments which can be reconfigured to the appropriate color pattern since the only significant difference between these two tormas is the color of the circular ornaments. This represents considerable savings if you need a torma for both practices. Please contact me if this is suitable for you and we can discuss.
